Yoram Baguma, the man captured in a viral video attempting to approach President Yoweri Museveni during a campaign rally in Kawempe North, has been sentenced to 15 months in prison after pleading guilty to the charges.

According to court documents, Baguma was accused of acts intended to alarm, annoy, or ridicule the person of the President. He also faced charges of assaulting R/O Lieutenant John Sande Natukunda and disobeying lawful orders.

Before being sentenced, Baguma, aged 28, asked for forgiveness, saying he acted the way he did because he urgently wanted to meet the President, as he had rewritten several letters but received no response.

While delivering the ruling, Grade One Magistrate Damalie Aguma Asiimwe said she was sentencing Baguma to 15 months as he did not waste the court’s time and is a first-time offender. She further stated that, as he is still a young man, he deserves a lenient sentence.

She, however, warned him never to try such an act again, as there are several official channels for meeting the President.

Baguma, a resident of Katabi Town Council in Wakiso District, was arrested by the Special Forces Command on March 11 at Kawempe Mbogo, where he tried to gain access to the President.
