The territorial police in Rukungiri have updated the public on registered fatal road traffic accident that happened last night claiming lives of three people and several others seriously injured.
According to Kigezi Region police spokesperson ASP. Elly Maate, the incident happened last night 12th April 2025 at around 10:20pm at Omukabingo cell, Buyanja Sub County along Rukungiri Ntungamo Road in Rukungiri district.
ASP. Maate confirmed that vehicles involved in accident are UBN 331G Isuzu bus of Perfect company- blue in colour and UBA 341G Toyota Hiace(PSV), White in colour.
He identified the three deceased persons as Ronald aka Kakimpa male adult aged 35 years, a Taxi conductor, Liberty Bonance male juvenile 3 years, Congolese by Nationality and Unidentified female adult- taxi passenger.
The injured are;

2.RA/141725 S/SGT.Kwesigwa Edgar male adult UPDF Officer.
3.RA/161230 L/CPL.Tukwasibwe Alex male adult UPDF officer.
4.RA/213765 PTE Okello Francis male adult UPDF Officer.
5.Pacific Claude m/a, a Congolese by Nationality.
6.Abenomugisha Blair- m/a
7.Nyabanawe Bernard- m/a aged 62yrs.
8.Tumwebaze Annah- f/a
9.Barisimwaki James m/a aged 44yrs.
10.Amumpire Jackline f/a
11.Kiconco Florence -f/a
12.Komushana Oliver- f/a
13.Tayebwa Oscar-m/a

According to Elly Maate, it’s alleged that, while bus reg. no. UBN 331N was coming from Rukungiri town heading to Ntungamo side, it deviated from it’s lane and ended up colliding with Toyota Hiace reg. no. UBA 341G.
After the collusion, the bus fell on the side of the driver in the middle of the road, the Taxi turned and faced opposite direction.
He added that people who were confirmed dead at the scene were two occupants from the Taxi and one occupant from the bus.
All victims mentioned above are admitted at Nyakibale Hospital for medical attention. Driver of the bus still at large.
The Police were informed, the scene visited by a team of Police officers led by DPC- SSP Kyangungu Apollo, sketch plan drafted and relevant statements recorded at the scene.
The bodies were taken to Rwakabengo health centre Mortuary for postmortem and the vehicles are parked at the station pending IOV- inspection.
Maate said that preliminary suspected cause was reckless driving by the bus driver.
