Minister Jim Muhwezi supports Buhunga’s Rutooma Technical Institute, urges people to embrace vocational training to fight unemployment

The Minister for Security who is also the Rujumbura County Member of Parliament Hon. Maj. Gen. Jim Katugugu Muhwezi has encouraged youth to embrace vocational training to attain the knowledge and skills required in the current dynamic job market.

Minister Jim Muhwezi made the call yesterday while officiating the fundraising to revive Rutooma Technical Institute which is under Rutooma Catholic in Buhunga Sub County Rukungiri district.

He revealed that vocational training is favorable since learners from vocational institutions graduate with a range of opportunities at their disposal like creating their jobs or getting employment. 

“I encourage all youth out there to grab an opportunity of getting a skill as this helps you to start up your own projects in a way of curbing unemployment, especially among the youth. Vocational training is relevant today because learners are equipped with basic knowledge and skills,” Muhwezi said. 

Hon. Jim Muhwezi supported the institute with Ugx. 10M and pledged ten sewing machines and computers.

He however assured residents of Buhunga Sub County and Rujumbura at large that he is coming back come 2026 general elections requesting their support for the continuity of better service delivery.

Rev. Fr. Byomuhangi Fisher, Rutooma Parish Priest thanked Minister Jim Muhwezi for sparing time with them and the support he rendered towards development of different churches within his jurisdiction which is rare to some leaders.

Twinamatsiko Alex, the Principle Rutooma Technical Institute explained that their goal is to restructure their institution and grow, and they are pleading with the government to step in and provide them with resources to help students become skilled.
