RUKUNGIRI: Minister Jim Muhwezi visits Kashenyi SS, exhorts students to support gov’t initiatives

Raising money for salary of many teachers who are not on the government payroll is a challenge for Kashenyi Secondary School in Rukungiri district.

During Minister for Security Jim Muhwezi Katugugu’s recent visit to the school, Canon Wycliffe Makky Twinomujuni, the headteacher, disclosed this.

Only 19 of the 47 employees, including a nurse and a school bursar, are employed by the government, according to Canon Twinomujuni.

The remaining 28 teachers are supported by parents, creating a significant financial burden.

Canon Twinomujuni also revealed that additional infrastructure, such as a boys’ dormitory, is being constructed by parents due to insufficient accommodation for the growing student population.

Furthermore, parents have provided 20 computers recently to supplement the 11 aging units provided by the government.

He however said the school has received government assistance for four A-level classrooms and the main hall.

The school has an enrollment of 1,052 students, including 487 girls.

Minister Muhwezi on his part urged students to take full advantage of government initiatives like Universal Primary Education (UPE) and Universal Secondary Education (USE) to ensure a bright future through quality education.

As the presidential pledge is a command that must be implemented, Minister Jim Muhwezi pledged that he will follow up on the school bus so that they receive it as soon as possible.
