The Rukungiri Municipality area Member of Parliament Hon. Dr. Elisa Rutahigwa yesterday Wednesday launched the first ever free medical camp where people will test for Tuberculosis and cancer.
The three-day health camp was organized by Rukobarwomunda for Community Mobilization Development (RUCOMODE), a non-governmental organization funded by Rukungiri Municipality legislator Hon. Dr. Elisa Rutahigwa in partnership with the ministry of health.
Hundreds of people showed their presence during the launch at Rukungiri Health Centre (IV) Rwamahwa to access free services.
Speaking during the official launch, Hon. Dr. Rutahigwa Elisa commonly known as Omuturagye said the camp will address healthcare backlogs resulting from people not accessing services or knowing their health status related to Tuberculosis (TB) and cancer both in men and women.
Dr. Rutahigwa added by encouraging people to avoid self medication as this endangers their lives.

Dr. Musinguzi Corinerious explained that the camp is an opportunity for people to access services that could have been long overdue for them.
Dr. Cornelius praised Dr. Rutahirwa for bringing the health camp to Rukungiri, highlighting its significance in the fight against TB.
Musinguzi claims that Rukungiri District records between 740 and 760 TB cases each year, with Bwambara, Nyakagyeme, Nyarushanje, and Nyakishenyi sub-counties having the highest incidence rates.

Moses Tumwine, the RUCOMODE coordinator, clarified that Rukungiri was selected for this project because of the high TB prevalence in the area and the camp hopes to accommodate 8,000–10,000 individuals.
Silvia Muhumuza and Tindimwebwa Jambo, some of the beneficially residents thanked Dr. Rutahigwa for giving these necessary treatments because they were unable to pay for medical testing at private clinics and hospitals.

So far over 150 who showed up yesterday Wednesday for TB test were attended whereas today Thursday, health workers will attend to people testing both cancer and Tuberculosis.
