Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa praises North Kigezi Diocesan Bishop Onesimus Asiimwe for promoting education

The Deputy Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa has hailed Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese Rt. Rev. Onesimus Asiimwe for promoting education in his area.

Tayebwa made the remarks today Sunday 27th April 2025 while officiating as the chief guest during the celebration of second anniversary of Episcopal ministry by North Kigezi Diocesan Bishop Onesimus and Florence Asiimwe in a function held at Emmanuel Cathedral Kinyasano in Western division Rukungiri municipality.

Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa was represented by the Rukungiri district Woman Member of Parliament Hon. Midius Natukunda Kaharata who said that the government values the partnership with the Church of Uganda.

Tayebwa revealed that it is heartening to note the generous contribution Bishop Onesimus Asiimwe is making to the advancement of education and other social services to the people of Uganda especially reviving of Makobore High School and Kinyasano Girls.

Hon. Tayebwa also commended Bishop Onesimus for his role in shaping Ugandans into responsible citizens and empowering them to improve their livelihoods.

He contributed 20M shillings towards the completion of Emmanuel Cathedral Church which is under construction.

Also through Hon. Midius Natukunda Kaharata, the Minister for Security also the Rujumbura County Member of Parliament Hon. Maj. Gen. Jim Muhwezi commended Bishop Onesimus Asiimwe for preaching the gospel of unity, tolerance and reconciliation.

“Your emphasis on unity and reconciliation is one of the reasons we have our current peace in North Kigezi Diocese and the same reason why all these people have come to celebrate with you the second anniversary of Episcopal ministry” Jim Muhwezi said.

Minister Jim Muhwezi contributed 5M shillings to support the ongoing construction of the church and Hon. Midius herself contributed 2M shillings.

The function was graced by the Rukungiri Municipality hopeful Member of Parliament Ankunda Andrew Kikira who expressed gratitude to Bishop Onesimus Asiimwe for his significant contribution towards the development of North Kigezi Diocese.

Ankunda contributed 100 bags of cement to support construction of Emmanuel Cathedral Church and pledged to rally others to contribute an additional 10 million shillings.

Other dignitaries who supported Bishop Onesimus Asiimwe include Rukungiri Municipality MP. Hon. Dr. Elisa Rutahigwa with Ugx.  2M, Counsel Isaac Atukunda who also eyes the Rukungiri Municipality MP seat with 1M shillings, Can. Johnson Byabashaija 3M, Rubabo’s Naboth Namanya 1M, RDC Rukungiri Nsubuga Bewayo Stephen 500,000 shillings among others.

Meanwhile Bishop Onesimus Asiimwe, urged residents of Rukungiri to refrain from becoming divided based on political affiliations as the nation approaches election season.
