Dr. Alex Kamugisha confirms kick starting of mobilization within NRM party in Rukungiri Municipality ahead of 2026 general elections

Elected NRM leaders in Rukungiri Municipality on Friday last week kick started mobilization within the party to prepare for the forthcoming 2026 general elections.

The development was confirmed by National Resistance Movement (NRM) chairperson Rukungiri Municipality Hon. Dr. Alex Kamugisha during an interview with our reporter.

Dr. Kamugisha confirmed that on Friday last week, he summoned all groups of elected NRM leaders within Rukungiri Municipality including main stream committee together with heads of various leagues and these are women, youth, workers and elders’ league among others at Riverside hotel in Eastern division Rukungiri municipality.

Speaking with our reporter, Kamugisha narrated that the meeting was to create awareness among these leaders that the election period is not very far and should mobilize people to participate.

Kamugisha said that there are areas where they need to instill and strengthen rules and regulations within the party, especially building on areas which can create divisions among people.

He clarified that members confirmed in the meeting that during election times, they usually experience a lot of indiscipline within party members which creates conflicts made by small differences including tainting people’s names among others and these are caused by failure to follow party rules.

Dr. Alex Kamugisha added that in the meeting which was not attended by the media, they reviewed their methods of work and issues they can build on to strengthen the party.

As NRM chairperson in Rukungiri municipality, Kamugisha emphasized leaders to create a greater unity within party members and reduce divisions and misunderstandings within party members.

Kamugisha said that the forthcoming primary elections must be conducted free and fairly so that the right people are declared winners.
