RUKUNGIRI-The Minister for ICT and National Guidance Hon. Dr. Chris Baryomunsi has urged youth to embrace sports as one way of making living.
Hon. Dr. Baryomunsi made the call yesterday Saturday 15th March 2025 while officiating “Jim Cup” finals at Bugangari playground in Bugangari Sub County, Rukungiri district.
Jim Cup is a football tournament facilitated by Rujumbura County MP. Hon. Maj. Gen. Jim Katugugu Muhwezi annually to identify talents among youth.
The day’s football match was a contest between Nyakagyeme Sub County and Bwambara Sub County (Males) and also for females; the football match was between Rwerere Town Council and Ruhinda Sub County.
Bwambara emerged triumphant in 2-1 results.
The function was graced by Rukungiri district Woman MP. Hon. Midius Natukunda Kaharata and Rukungiri Municipality MP. Dr. Elisa Rutahigwa among others.
Speaking as the guest of honor representing Deputy Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa, Dr. Chris Baryomunsi urged youth to embrace sports as profession since they can earn a descent salary while also creating bonds and networks with those at national and International levels.
Hon. Baryomunsi commended the organizers of the tournament for their efforts in bringing together young people from different backgrounds.
Baryomunsi added by asking residents of Rukungiri district to support current leaders especially Dr. Rutahigwa, Hon. Midius Kaharata and Rujumbura County MP. Maj. Gen. Jim Muhwezi for the continuity of development in the area.
He however, contributed 1M shillings to each seven participating team.

Minister Jim Muhwezi, who facilitates Jim Cup in Rujumbura Constituency, expressed his enthusiasm for the young people who grew up during the NRM government, which brought about peace in the nation.
Jim Muhwezi said that the population in the country is increasing because Ugandan government immunized children and they have grown up without being disabled.
Muhwezi said that he initiated football tournament in Rujumbura County to create unity and identify talents among youth which is also a profession.
Hon. Jim Muhwezi expressed his commitment to supporting youth development initiatives in the region.

Dan Ahimbisibwe Bahamire, the chief coordinator of Jim Cup said that the tournament started from Parish level and all were facilitated with uniform and two footballs each team, and after competed at Sub County levels.
