LIRA: Joy as Minister Jane Ruth Aceng donates over Ugx. 200M to community groups

Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng, the Minister for Health and Woman MP for Lira City today Thursday joined the government’s efforts to combat poverty by providing financial support to a number of community groups in Lira City.

To aid in eradication of poverty, 880 community groups were each given a start-up budget of Ugx. 500,000.

Minister Aceng stated that the contribution came from money she had amassed from a portion of her salary and the monthly constituency allowance she received from the Ugandan Parliament.

Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng revealed that she cannot steal her supporters by making money off of them, despite the fact that some greedy leaders have discouraged her from giving the money out as grants rather than loans.

Aceng went on by urging other leaders to put constituency development ahead of personal wealth accumulation.

By choosing leaders who are considerate of them, Aceng advised voters to cast wise ballots in elections of 2026.

She congratulated “Women in Action group under ‘ The Great salvation Ministry Church’ in Kakoge C, Lira City West Division, led by one Mrs. Eunice Arwai.

“With just Ugx. 500,000, they began an income-generating activity, and today, their bank account is filled with millions of shillings.”

The Minister further stated that the beneficiaries who are now registered under multiple categories in 2020 will be sorted out first, with the remaining beneficiaries being sorted out at a later time.

She encouraged individuals who haven’t signed up for groups to do so, explaining that they will gain from her personal financial empowerment.

Dr. Aceng issued a warning to those who insult women and go viral on social media and radio stations, urging them to show moral principles for the people of Lira City and to immediately cease such acts as they are inappropriate.

Noting that the NRM government led by H. E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni had succeeded in bringing its people out of poverty and bringing about greater development in Uganda, she also urged the people of Lango and the surrounding area to support NRM candidates in 2026 election in order to bring about more development.

Some Lira City residents who spoke with the Kigezi Post reporter commended Aceng’s accomplishments.

They also urged other members of parliament, especially those from Lango, to take up Aceng’s way of life and continuously forgo financial gain in order to support their compatriots, just as Aceng did.
