Members of Parliament (MP) have expressed disappointment to the Clerk of Parliament, Adolf Mwesigye, over the abrupt cancellation of today’s plenary sitting, minutes before its commencement at 2pm.
Legislators, such as Brahim Ssemujju Nganda of Kira Municipality and Robert Migadde of Buvuma Island County, chastised the leadership of Parliament for failing to give prior warning, which led to the wastage of time and money.
The cancelation was caused by a strategic meeting that President Museveni called in State House, Entebbe, and that the Speakers were expected to attend, according to Government Chief Whip Hamson Obua, who spoke with media at Parliament.
Speaker Among gave Parliamentary Clerk Adolf Mwesigye instructions on Wednesday to inform people about the suspension.
Plenary will resume on Tuesday next week according to the communiqué published by the Clerk.
It however comes amid mounting pressure on the parliament, which peaked yesterday with the arrest of dozens of youth who attempted to march to the parliamentary building to protest against corruption in the legislative arm of government.
