Mwesigwa Mathious Rwabugumi, the Rubabo County hopeful Member of Parliament yesterday today 4th February 2025 officially launched the highly anticipated Football Tournament for Rubabo County in Nyakishenyi Sub County Rukungiri district.
The inauguration included the distribution of footballs and uniforms to representatives from 12 parishes in Nyakishenyi Sub County and these include Katonya, Kisya, Rwanyondo, Kahoko, Kacence, Murama, Ngoma, Bikongozo, Kafunjo, Nyarugano, Kibale and Kirimbe, .
Speaking during the launch, Hon. Mwesigwa Mathious said that the tournament which will start from Sub County and then to constituency level aims to foster unity, promote development, and identify talent among boda boda riders within Rubabo County in Rukungiri district.
According to Rwabugumi, the tournament’s goals go beyond football and include fostering talent, bridging gaps between communities, and promoting discipline and teamwork among boda boda riders.
Hon. Rwabugumi confirmed that the winning parish will receive 500,000 shillings at the Sub County level, while the winner Sub County at constituency level will receive 2 million shillings, second 1.5 million, and all participating teams will receive 500,000 shillings.

Rukungiri Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Nsubuga Bewayo Stephen, who was the chief guest during the launch, stated that the tournament will encourage boda boda riders to refrain from bad habits including smoking, drinking, and other vices.
RDC Bewayo added that the competition will foster solidarity among boda boda riders and aid in identifying their talents.

Kalori Charles, the chairperson Nyakishenyi Sub County boda boda association revealed that the tournament will not only provide entertainment, but it will also unite boda boda riders and provide them a chance to showcase themselves on high level platforms.
It is anticipated that the Hon. Mwesigwa Mathious Football Tournament will attract sizable audiences of supporters eager to support their favorite teams.
