Rukungiri district authorities, Hon. Jim Muhwezi support residents to rehabilitate Rwendahi bridge

As the heavy rains continue to pound different parts of the country destroying roads and bridges, residents of Kigaaga and Nyakinengo Parishes in Nyakagyeme Sub County Rukungiri district are among those facing the brunt of the season.

The residents are stranded after floods washed away Rwendahi bridge connecting Kigaaga Ward and Nyakinengo Parish along Rukungiri-Kanungu Road to various neighboring communities leaving businesses paralyzed and people’s movements and vehicles halted.

Speaking with our reporter, Kyasiima Peace, Kato Clevato, Turyahererahi Annet and Jolly Biziringyi some of the area residents said since the bridge was washed away, road users have to dig deeper in their pockets to meet the cost of using the alternative routes to and from Rukungiri town.

Residents also stated that they started community service on Thursday this week in an attempt to address the issue, but they were unable to cover the expenses of purchasing culverts in order to construct the bridge.

The residents later asked Rukungiri district authorities and their area members of Parliament including Hon. Jim Muhwezi and Hon. Midius Natukunda Kaharata to help them and urgently fix a bridge which connects different parts after being washed away by the floods.

After learning about the matter, the Rukungiri district chairperson LC5 Mr. Geoffrey Kyomukama and Isaac Kaharuza political assistant to Hon. Jim Muhwezi intervened to solve the matter since it emerged.

Isaac Kaharuza assured the residents that Minister Jim Muhwezi is going to donate the culverts and the construction works of the bridge are going to commence with immediate effect.

The residents were excited and praised their legislator for his timely response as this will help them to move and transport their goods to market centers without any inconvenience.
