The Rukungiri district council has today Tuesday 29th October 2024 approved to erect a monument at district headquarters in recognition of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni Tibuhaburwa for his contributions to the pacification and development of Uganda.
The motion was presented as an urgent matter of National importance by Councilor Musimenta Cledonia Bakironda from the Tourism department with information on the Presidential Legacy Monument project in Rukungiri district.
While presenting the motion during the council session, Musimenta revealed that they decided on the special recognition of President Museveni, saying it was the least they could do to him.
“As council, we should look back at where president Museveni got this country from and where we are now. Our President really deserves a lasting prize,” Musimenta said.
She claimed that when the NRM party celebrated its accomplishments at the Kololo Ceremonial Grounds under President Museveni’s capable leadership, it was decided to locate the Presidential Legacy Monument Project in Rukungiri district for the benefit of the entire nation.
Hon. Maj. Gen. Jim Katugugu Muhwezi, the Member of Parliament for Rujumbura County and the minister of security, sponsored the erection of this monument.
According to plans, the monument will be constructed at Rukungiri district headquarters and hopes it will attract the attention of tourists.
