RUKUNGIRI! Manager stabex burnt to ashes in fuel tanker explosion 

The territorial police in Rukungiri registered a single fatal road accident that claimed life of one person and two others were critically injured.

ASP. Elly Maate the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson confirmed the development saying this was on 20th August 2024 at around 2:30Pm at Bagahwe Trading Centre, Bugangari Sub County along Rukungiri Kihihi Road in Rukungiri district, where Vehicle reg no. UAT 055G Mitsubishi Fuso (Fuel tank) White in color was involved.

Maate identified the victims who involved in accident as Mayengo Qurash 35-years old man and Muganda by tribe, who was the driver and resident of Mbarara City, Kiprimo Brian (Turnman) 27-years old, a Kenyan by nationality and Abdullah Harman  32-years old, a Somali by nationality, a Manager Stabex Kihihi Branch, who was burnt beyond recognition.

It is alleged that, motor vehicle UAT 055G Mitsubishi Fuso Fuel tank,  while was loaded with fuel from Mbarara and delivering it to Kihihi Stabex branch and the vehicle had 3(three) occupants inclusive of the driver, turnman and the Manager. 

Elly Maate disclosed that upon reaching at Bagahwe while at a slope heading to the roundabout, the vehicle lost control while at a high speed, failed to negotiate the round about and passed on one-way and it hit a road furniture (give way sign post) and the vehicle rested in a trench facing the direction of Kihihi.

Immediately it sparked fire and the manager couldn’t make it  and was burnt beyond recognition. 

The driver and the turnman were rushed to Nyakibale hospital before being referred to Mulago hospital for further medical attention.

Maate said scene was visited and documented by DTO, Traffic officers and a Team of Fire Rukungiri.

He added that relevant statements recorded, with the help of Fire Brigade, and fire was put off. 

The body was retrieved and taken to Rwakabengo health Centre (IV) for postmortem. 

Maate however, said that the primary cause of the accident was Reckless driving by the driver.
