Business owners operating in Kashenyi trading centre, Bugangari Sub County in Rukungiri district are crying foul after losing property worth millions following a fire outbreak that gutted the building.
The fire outbreak happened yesterday Sunday at around 3:00pm in Kashenyi trading center along Rukungiri-Kanungu-Kihihi highway.
The Rukungiri Police’s Fire Prevention and Rescue Services responded promptly and successfully contained the fire before the situation got worse.
Ndyamuhaki Rogers, Tumuhibisse Yusuf and Nuwamanya Jackiness some of the eye witnesses said that the fire broke out from the wooden kitchen which later spread to the entire commercial building leading to the loss of properties worth millions of money.

Nuwagaba Alex, the owner of the building, informed our reporter that in addition to other business belongings lost in the fire, he had teachers renting several of his rooms, and their things were burnt into ashes.

While investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause, preliminary findings suggest that the fire may have resulted from the tenant who used petro to cook.

Fortunately, no death or injuries have been reported and police are yet to give a comment about the matter.
