The Minister for security who is also the Rujumbura County area Member of Parliament Hon. Maj. Gen. Jim Muhwezi has challenged the young people to embrace a saving culture if they are to build their future on a strong financial foundation.
He made the revelation on Friday 15th November 2024 while visiting Tumukunde Brian, a social media activist from Nyakasharara Village in Rubanga Parish Buyanja Sub County who turned into a farmer after being advised by Hon. Jim Muhwezi on mindset change.
Speaking after visiting his farm of animals including cows on zero grazing and piggery project, Minister Jim Muhwezi said a number of the young people have remained poor as a result of economic ignorance and greed for money.
He asked them to have a mindset change and to also venture into commercial farming, saying it would help them to improve their livelihoods.
“Venture into commercial farming and save the little you have. Economic ignorance and greed for money have consumed us. You must wake up and be economically vibrant,” Minister Muhwezi said.
Jim Muhwezi asked the youth not to be selective when it comes to work, saying this is one of the reasons why some of the young people remain unemployed.
He supported Tumukunde Brian’s farm project with Ugx. 5M.

Tumukunde Brian, the host farmer, praised Minister Jim Muhwezi for helping him change his perspective.
Tumukunde said that he used to spend a lot of time on social media abusing people, but changed his mind after being counseled to participate in the money economy.
Following the Minister’s advice, Tumukunde adopted the saving culture, which has allowed him to purchase food for his animals and live a comfortable life.
He asked the youth to dedicate most of their time to productive work rather than engaging in abusing people on social media, gambling and rioting on the streets.
Tumukunde however, thanked the government for its poverty alleviation programs like Parish Development Model (PDM) whereby he was given Ugx. 1M as a startup capital.
