ANTHRAX SCARE! RDC Bewayo bans movement of livestock from Kanungu to Rukungiri

The Rukungiri Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Nsubuga Bewayo Stephen has enforced a complete ban on the movement of livestock and its products from Kanungu to Rukungiri to halt the apparent spread of anthrax disease.

Recently, the Kanungu RDC Mr. Ambrose Mwesigye declared the outbreak of anthrax disease which claimed at least three lives and led to several hospitalizations.

Speaking to the media this Friday afternoon, RDC Rukungiri Mr. Bewayo Nsubuga disclosed that people should be extremely vigilant and ensure that no livestock or their products cross into Rukungiri as this will help prevent the disease from spreading widely since it shares borders with Kanungu.

Bewayo pleaded with people to avoid becoming victims by abstaining from eating the flesh of animals that pass away inexplicably.

In an effort to stop the disease’s spread inside the district, he said authorities will hold media talk shows and public health education.

Cue in………..RDC BEWAYO……..

The bacterial infection, common in ruminant animals like cattle, goats, and sheep, leads to quick deaths in animals with minimal signs of infection on their carcasses.

In humans, symptoms include flu-like illness and raised boil-like lesions on the skin, potentially fatal.

Preliminary reports suggest direct contact with infected animals and their products, such as raw meat, milk, and skins, as the main mode of transmission to humans.
