The Minister for security who is also the Rujumbura County area Member of Parliament Hon. Maj. Gen. Jim Muhwezi over the weekend officially launched Rukungiri Police Station Development Association to develop a culture among men in uniform and civilians.
Speaking during the launch held at Rukungiri Inn Hotel in Eastern Division Rukungiri municipality, Minister Jim Muhwezi praised the Ugandan Police for incorporating the civilian population into their effort to reduce poverty in accordance with the development goal of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) government.
Jim Muhwezi thanked police for the good initiative urging them to dream big as this will help them to achieve more in their journey.
Minister Muhwezi emphasized that this association can continue to expand as long as the leadership works with all members and the government, giving an example of the Army’s Wazalendo Sacco, which currently has more than Ugx, 1 trillion.

The Rukungiri Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Nsubuga Bewayo Stephen urged residents in the district and Ugandans at large to embrace a saving culture, which is crucial for sustaining the growth of their social wellbeing.

SSP Apollo Kyangungu, the Rukungiri District Police Commander (DPC) conveyed his appreciation for the police’s improved reputation while emphasizing that previously, the public was unwilling to approach the officers.
Since they are the information sources, Kyangungu noted that incorporating the civilians into this association has been essential to combating crime and community policing.
He asked Minister Jim Muhwezi to thank President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for the good working environment, peace and coordinating them as police with the public.

Joseph Mukasa Karuhanga the Rukungiri Police station Development Association Chairperson explained that it was founded by a group of police wives who were saving Ugx.1,000 a week and that it is now increasing daily after they invited friends from the business community and the police officers to join.

With over 350 members in a period of 25 years, Karuhanga revealed that they have been able to achieve big improvement in individual daily household income.
