Extension of clean and safe water project excites Rukungiri’s Buhunga residents

The South Western Umbrella of Water and Sanitation, in collaboration with the office of Hon. Jim Muhwezi, the Member of Parliament for Rujumbura County and Security Minister, has initiated a drive to expand water supply to Buhunga Sub County in the Rukungiri district.

Bunyinya, Ikuniro, Kabingo, Kagando, and Kankungu are among the villages in Buhunga Sub County that will receive water through this initiative by South Western Umbrella of Water and Sanitation.

Speaking at the Buhunga Sub County headquarters upon receiving water pipes that will be used to extend water to various villages, Nuwaribagye Isaiah, the area manager of water umbrella in Rujumbura, stated that the percentage of Buhunga Sub County residents who benefit from their services currently stands at 60%.

However, because they collaborated with the minister and received additional pipes, they will now extend services to other villages, bringing their total to 80%.

According to Nuwaribagye, they plan to finish the project they are starting in the near future so that people have access to clean, safe water.

He continued by saying that in addition to Buhunga Sub County, they are also working in other places, such as Bwambara, where they plan to extend the service by roughly 50 kilometres, and Bugangari, where a project is already underway.

Water scarcity was a problem in Kabingo Parish, according to Mr. Isaac Kaharuza, Hon. Jim Muhwezi’s political assistant.

However, after learning about the problem, their area member of parliament, Hon. Jim Muhwezi took prompt action to address it.

Water-borne infections, like bilharzia, are caused by contaminated water, as shown by Kaharuza as this compelled Minister Jim Muhwezi to act swiftly.

He declared that public standpipes will be installed as part of this initiative so that everyone will have access to clean water.

After the project was finished, he urged the beneficiaries to take care of the water taps and pipes.
