JUST IN! Rukungiri district “Boona Bagigahare Nyekundire Group” leaders fire Peace Rugambwa

Leaders of Boona Bagaigahare Nyekundire Group in Rukungiri district have today Tuesday 19th November 2024 resolved to form an independent group which will not run under the leadership of Ms. Peace Rugambwa.

The leaders made the decision during a meeting held at Okapi Hotel in Western division Rukungiri municipality and was attended by all Boona Bagigahare Nyekundire Group from all Sub Counties in Rukungiri district and Counsel Bwagi Jonathan of Bwagi  Co. Advocates to give members legal advice.

The meeting was chaired by Mr. Topher Karabayi who is the chairperson of Boona Bagigahare Nyekundire Group Rukungiri district.

Speaking during the meeting, Karabayi told members that he was shocked when he learned that Peace Rugambwa had registered Boona Bagigahare Nyekundire Group as Boona Bagigahare Nyekundire Group Limited, meaning the organization is owned by her, not members.

Karabaya went on to say that Boona Bagigahare Nyekundire Group lacks the official account and constitution that are necessary to operate as a public organization; instead, it is only in her hands, which they believe may lead to issues in the near future.

According to him, the Rukungiri district Boona Bagigahare Nyekundire Group met and wrote to Rugambwa, granting her two weeks to come and address all of these pressing concerns, including why she is unable to implement the directives from the President that were given during their state visit earlier this year to ensure the group’s smooth operation, but it was all in vain.

Karabaya continued that members paid Ugx. 12000 nearly seven years ago promising them items including mattresses, bed sheets, animals, among other things.

However, nothing has been done, so they are being forced to fire Ms. Peace Rugambwa and establish an independent group that will operate legally and benefit its members.

The vice chairperson of Boona Bagigahare Nyekundire Group for South Western Uganda, Tukesiga Moses Rwakachaka, stated that Boona Bagigahare Nyekundire Group Limited under the leadership of Ms. Peace Rugambwa has no future because she rejected the president’s request to work with district leaders for the members’ benefit.

Rugambwa, according to Tukesiga, is utilizing the Boona Bagigahare Nyekundire Group as a means of dismissing leaders who attempt to inquire about their path, claiming that their actions today were the appropriate ones that would benefit all members.

Counsel Bwagi Jonathan of Bwagi Co. Advocates told members that he was instructed by the chairperson Boona Bagigahare Nyekundire Group Rukungiri Mr. Topher Karabayi to attend their meeting today for legal guidance.

Addressing members, Counsel Bwagi said that under article (43) of Ugandan constitution, it gives people rights to enjoy some rights as long as they belong to an association.

The association’s history, according to Counsel Bwagi, indicates that Peace Rugambwa has been invited to multiple meetings, but all of them have been unsuccessful and as a result, they were forced to write to her with their resolutions and that would start a new group if she failed to bid, which they did and was legitimate.

He said as members, they have a right to form a new association since Rugambwa has been driving them under his company of Boona Bagigahare Nyekundire Group Limited unknowingly.
