The police in Kisoro have registered a fatal accident involving Motor vehicle registration number UBE524E/UBE018K MAN trailer and Motorcycle reg. number UFM860S Bajaj Boxer.
ASP. Elly Maate the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson said that the incident occurred today 24th August 2024 around 09:10am at Nyamushungwa village, Mabungo parish in Nyarusiza Sub County along Nyarusiza Kisoro road in Kisoro district.
Afande Maate identified the deceased as Shangari Robert 56 years old and a resident of Buzeyi village, Nyarusiza sub county Kisoro district, who was a passenger on the motorcycle and victim as Ribakare Joseph 60 years old resident of the same address who was the rider.
It’s alleged that the motorcycle was from Nyarusiza to Kisoro town and on reaching Nyamushungwa village along Kisoro Nyarusiza road, met an on coming trailer on a narrow road and on trying to pass on the side, the driver lost control and collided with the behind tire and fell down in the behind tires of the trailer.
ASP. Maate said the rider sustained serious injuries and the passenger died on the spot.
He added that the police were alerted, scene was visited, victim was taken to Kisoro hospital and body taken to Kisoro hospital mortuary for postmortem.
Motorcycle and motor vehicle according to Maate were taken to Cps Kisoro pending IOV inspection.
The suspected cause of the accident was Passing too close by the rider of the motorcycle as the road was narrow.
