NUP’s Bright Muhumuza abducted in Mbarara by armed security officers

The National Unity Platform (NUP) president, Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has alleged that heavily armed Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) soldiers abducted party member Bright Muhumuza in Mbarara City on Monday evening.

In a statement shared on social media, Bobi Wine claimed that Muhumuza was taken from a restaurant and forced into a drone vehicle, registration number UAK 707G, before being driven to an unknown location.

“We have just been notified about the abduction, this evening, of our comrade Bright Muhumuza from Mbarara City by heavily armed UPDF soldiers. Apparently, they found him at a restaurant, abducted him and drove him to an unknown location in a drone Reg. No. UAK 707G,” Bobi Wine stated.

He condemned the alleged incident, accusing the Ugandan government of targeting opposition members.

“The criminal regime is on a rampage, but we are not scared. We demand for the freedom of comrade Bright and all other political prisoners. Supporting the National Unity Platform is not a crime,” he added.

There has been no official response from the UPDF or government authorities regarding the claims.

However, Uganda’s opposition has repeatedly accused security agencies of enforced disappearances, especially targeting those affiliated with NUP.

This incident adds to growing concerns over political repression in Uganda as opposition voices continue to demand accountability and justice for their detained members.
