Ugandan opposition leader, Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine, has taken action after the shocking news that his chief civilian bodyguard, Eddie Mutwe, was reportedly taken by force and is being held by security forces.
The bodyguard, whose real name is Edward Ssebufu, was said to have been picked up from Mukono District a few days ago by members of the Special Forces Command (SFC), an elite unit of the Ugandan army.
The surprise came on Thursday evening when General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defence Forces and son of President Yoweri Museveni, posted online, confirming that Eddie Mutwe was in his custody.
In several posts on X (formerly Twitter), Gen Muhoozi said Mutwe was being kept in a basement and forced to salute a photo of President Museveni every morning before breakfast.
He even shared a photo of Mutwe, half-naked, and said he was being made to learn Runyankore, a language spoken in western Uganda, where Museveni comes from.
Bobi Wine quickly responded on his official page, saying that what is happening to Eddie Mutwe is wrong and dangerous.
“Eddie Mutwe is all of us. Today it is him, tomorrow it could be any one of us,” he wrote.
Bobi Wine said this act shows the cruelty of President Museveni’s government, especially his son Gen Muhoozi, who many believe wants to take over power from his father one day.
He called on all Ugandans who care about justice and human rights to come together and speak out.
