Over 1,500 people relocated from Landslide hit area in Bulambuli

Over 1,500 people have been relocated from Bulunganya Sub County Buduuka to Bunambutye Sub County in Bulambuli district following last week’s landslide in the area that claimed several lives.

Last Wednesday night, a landslide occurred in the eastern district of Bulambuli, killing over 20 people and leaving at least 100 more missing.

Musungu village in Bulunganya Sub-County, Elgon sub region is one of the five most severely impacted villages by the landslide.

As of Monday, 1,500 persons from 241 homes had been moved to Bunambutye, Premier Robinah Nabbanja told reporters during the current NRM Manifesto Implementation Week at the Prime Minister’s office.

According to Premier Nabbanja, they have now started raising awareness among Ugandans residing in hazardous areas of Elgon and Rwenzori Mountains to follow early warning systems in order to prevent situations similar to the one that occurred on November 27, 2024.

Meanwhile, with the assistance of 500 UPDF personnel, eight more bodies were found in Bulambuli mudslide on Monday, bringing the total number of fatalities from the catastrophe to 28.

Although the extraction work to recover the missing bodies has been worsened due to bad terrain and the weather, Nabbanja has promised that the acquired excavator will quicken their operations.
