Religious leaders have been encouraged to focus on prosperity and the implementation of government programs to improve the welfare of their followers, instead of solely emphasizing religious teachings.
This message was delivered today Sunday by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni during the closure of Western Uganda Bishops and their Wives fellowship held at Emmanuel Cathedral Kinyasano under North Kigezi Diocese in Western Division Rukungiri Municipality.
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni was represented by the Security Minister who is also the Rujumbura County MP. Hon. Maj. Gen. Jim Katugugu Muhwezi.
Western Uganda Bishops and their Wives fellowship was graced by both active and Emeritus Bishops from all Sub Regions of Bunyoro, Rwenzori, Ankore and Kigezi.
In his message read by Minister Jim Muhwezi, President Museveni emphasized the importance of religious leaders guiding believers towards achieving better living standards, in addition to catering to their spiritual needs.
President Museveni emphasized that government initiatives are essential for fostering economic transformation and called on clerics to play a pivotal role in educating their congregations about the programs designed to alleviate poverty in the households.
He thanked all Bishops from the four sub regions for the gospel they preach which contributed to the revival and transformation of people’s hearts.
President Museveni supported them with Ugx. 50M to help in organizing the event.

During the same event, Bishop George Turyasingura of East Rwenzori who was the preacher criticized the increase in alcohol consumption and sexual acts.
Bishop Turyasingura called for divine intervention to address the issue especially in the current generation.

North Kigezi Diocesan Bishop Onesimus Asiimwe who was the host Bishop thanked the government of Uganda under the leadership of President Museveni for the good work done for the good of all people.
Among other people who attended the event include Rukungiri Municipality area Member of Parliament Dr. Elisa Rutahigwa, Rukungiri RDC Mr. Nsubuga Bewayo Stephen and other dignitaries.
