PICTORIAL: Rukungiri holds belated maiden Women’s Day celebrations

Hon. Maj. Gen Jim Katugugu Muhwezi, the Minister for security and Rujumbura County MP has praised President Yoweri Museveni’s pioneering efforts in empowering women and the girl-child in the various government sectors by giving them opportunities to flourish.

Minister Jim Muhwezi made the revelation today during the belated Women’s Day celebrations at Bugangari Playgrounds in Rukungiri district.

This year’s national Women’s Day runs under the theme, “Accelerated Action for Gender Equality”.

Speaking as the chief guest during the function, Hon. Jim Muhwezi said that President Museveni is being recommended for pioneering affirmative action for women in Uganda’s politics.

Minister Jim Muhwezi urged residents of Rukungiri and the Country at large to use the prevailing peace and create wealth and chase poverty out of their homes.

Rukungiri district Woman Member of Parliament Hon. Midius Natukunda Kaharata echoed the call for economic empowerment, encouraging women to engage in income-generating activities to support President Museveni’s focus on boosting household income.

Dr. Elisa Rutahigwa, the Rukungiri Municipality MP who also graced the function noted that the strides taken towards uplifting the women resulted from the deliberate policy by the President and his NRM government, not just rhetoric.

Jolly Mashaija, the Chairperson Women’s League for Rukungiri said that President Museveni has changed their lifestyles as women pledging their support come 2026 general elections.

‎The function was graced by the Rukungiri Resident District commissioner (RDC) Nsubuga Bewayo Stephen, LC5 chairperson Geoffrey Kyomukama, CAO among others.
