Leaders from Buhunga Sub County in Rukungiri district have asked the security minister Hon. Maj. Gen. Jim Muhwezi and President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to take action and arrest Boona Bagaigahare Nyekundire Group chairperson Mrs. Peace Rugambwa whom they say is destabilizing their community and the district at large.
They claim that in addition to diddling thousands of people promising them financial support from President Museveni something she didn’t implement, Rugambwa now obtains National IDs from elderly people and this brings confusion to the public.
Now, councilors ask Jim Muhwezi who is their area Member of Parliament to take action as the security minister since obtaining national ids from the public without knowledge of the government is illegal.
The leaders made their request yesterday Thursday 24th October 2024 during the meeting they requested Hon. Jim Muhwezi to have with him as their legislator to harmonize on how they can improve their area in terms of service delivery.
The meeting was held at Buhunga Sub County headquarters in council hall and was attended by both political and technical staff.
Led by councilors, Kiconco Allen and Bosco Turyatemba who is one of the committee leader of Boona Bagaigahare Nyekundire Group for Buhunga Sub County, they claim than after failing to fulfill what she promised before, Peace Rugambwa is currently obtaining National IDs from elderly people something that creates fear and confusion in the public.
They requested Minister Jim Muhwezi and President Museveni to take action against Peace Rugambwa for the good of Rukungiri district.
“It’s sad that despite raising the issue of our people being cheated by Rugambwa, the authorities have never taken action. She is again obtaining national ids from elderly and nothing is being done to her.” Councilors said.

Hon. Maj. Gen. Jim Katugugu Muhwezi explained that he is aware that Peace Rugambwa defrauded people.
“I didn’t know her until the president introduced her to us when we were in Nyakagyeme. The president said he was involved in onion farming,” said Muhwezi.
“I didn’t hear the President instructing her to pick Shs12, 000 from the elderly for the onion project. However, the matter was resolved early this year when we met President Museveni at state House Entebbe and agreed to refund that money to the people. ,”Muhwezi added.
Hon. Jim Muhwezi revealed that taking people’s money under the guise of membership fee was unfair and that’s the reason why President Museveni agreed to refund the money.
“That’s not NRM’s modus operandi. Our job is to help the vulnerable not to take money from them. Even membership cards are free of charge,” said Muhwezi.
In response to their request, Hon. Jim Muhwezi said that they have been using political means to advise Madam Peace Rugambwa but she is now going beyond narrating that obtaining National IDs from people is illegal and they may be forced to use the law and bring order since Rugambwa is incorrigible.

Our efforts to get comment from Peace Rugambwa was in vain since she didn’t pick our numerous phone calls.
The people of Rukungiri have been accusing Peace Rugambwa, a senior NRM mobiliser in the District for obtaining Shs. 12,000 from each person as “registration fees” for joining Boona Bagaigahare Nyekundire Group which the President would fund.
This money was picked from the elderly, underprivileged, widows and youth in the several sub-counties including Bwambara and Bugangari, Buhunga, Nyakagyeme and Ruhinda all in Rukungiri district.
