Rukungiri district Media Practitioners break record, start drive to improve their lifestyles  

In an effort to combat poverty among them, the 39 Rukungiri journalists who are members of the “Rukungiri district media practitioners association” have each been given a goat by the group.

The organization used the money from monthly dues to purchase goats for its members in order to foster personal growth.

At the goat-handover ceremony held at Rukungiri Inn in Rukungiri Municipality, Kansiime Boaz Matita, the chief guest and aspiring mayor of Rukungiri Municipality, expressed gratitude for the unity of journalists in Rukungiri district and urged them to stay united in order to improve their well-being.

In order for association members to succeed in future, Kansiime also exhorted them to be imaginative and launch side projects in addition to their professions.

He contributed two million shillings to association.

Hon. Naboth Namanya, the county legislator for Rubabo, gave participants a challenge to be creative, recognize issues in their communities, and launch a business to make a livelihood during the event.

The association’s mission is to combat poverty and share knowledge to help members do their professions better, as stated by association chair Isaac Bernard Tushabe.

Additionally, he stated that their goal as journalists is to share knowledge in order to combat reliance and establish a precedent for economic independence.
