The Rukungiri Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Nsubuga Bewayo Stephen has advised boda boda riders to use the development and peace in Uganda to get out of poverty.
RDC Bewayo made the remarks yesterday while facilitating a half day mindset change training for boda boda riders in Nyakishenyi Sub County Rukungiri district.
Among other facilitators included Rukungiri District chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Hajji. Masokoyi Wasswa, LC5 Chairperson Geoffrey Kyomukama, Rubabo County MP. Hon. Naboth Namanya, Nyakishenyi Sub County chairperson LC3 Wednesday Twinomujuni among others.
Addressing the congregations, RDC Bewayo highlighted some of the interventions the government came up with to help Ugandans join the money economy including, Parish Development model, Industrial hubs, Emyooga, small and Medium Enterprise loans in financial institutions among others.
Bewayo emphasized the importance of people organizing themselves into groups to benefit from various government funds.
He noted that boda boda riders are well-respected by the people for their role, thanking the Nyakishenyi Boda Boda Riders Association for organizing themselves and pledging to work with Rukungiri district officials to press the government for funding them.

Rukungiri district chairperson LC5 Geoffrey Kyomukama stated that the district has fulfilled its responsibility to improve roads, making it easier for boda boda riders and other road users to do their jobs.

According to Hon. Naboth Namanya, the Member of Parliament for Rubabo County said that the boda boda riders in Nyakishenyi have transformed the perception of them.
Previously viewed as inconsequential, they now possess respectable houses and businesses in communities.

During the training, Wednesday Twinomujuni, the chairperson LC3 Nyakishenyi Sub County stated that boda boda riders have been essential in maintaining Sub County security, which has decreased animal and other thievery.

Since President Museveni provided them a startup capital of 13 motorcycles, Kalori Charles, the chairperson of Nyakishenyi Boda Boda Association, stated that they began with savings and have now advanced to the level of a SACCO.
Kalori also expressed their eagerness as an association for President Museveni to inaugurate their SACCO.
