RUKUNGIRI: Karire residents celebrate first clean water source donated by Bridge of Hope Children Ministries

At least 1,000 residents across Karire cell, Eastern ward Kebisoni town council in Rukungiri district, are celebrating after finally getting a clean and protected water spring for the first time courtesy of Bridge of Hope Ministries, a nongovernmental organization.

The protected water spring was commissioned yesterday Saturday by the officials from Bridge of Hope Ministries and Kebisoni town council led by the Mayor Alex Mugabe Nathan.

Speaking during the ceremony, Abaasa Benjamin Tibemanya the founder of Bridge of Hope Children Ministries claimed to have received information from locals telling him about the scarcity of safe and clean water in their area.

Abaasa explained that he also shared this information with his benefactors, who agreed to help these people and came up with the plan to construct this water spring.

He continued by saying that Bridge of Hope has so far built more than forty-three protected water springs and they are currently being used in various parts of Rukungiri district.

Residents were urged by Abaasa to preserve and take ownership of this water spring in order to prolong its lifespan and address the issue of a shortage of safe and clean water.

Beyeza Eliab and Tumuhamye Andrew some of the residents said for years, they have relied on water collected from runoffs along the roadside and those from water wells which are not safe, hailing Bridge of Hope for the commendable endeavor.

Residents continued that over years, they have endured the burden of waterborne diseases such as diarrhea and typhoid due to the lack of access to safe water.
