Residents of Karushanje cell in Rubanga Parish Buyanja Sub County, Rukungiri district have a reason to smile after the commissioning of a water spring to enable them access clean and safe water.
The water spring was lobbied for by Rukungiri district woman member of Parliament Hon. Midius Natukunda Kaharata and Rubabo County MP. Hon. Naboth Namanya from Bridge of Hope Ministries.
This follows reports of increased domestic violence as people struggle for a clean source of water from the nearby stream, while others trekked long kilometers to draw water.
Speaking during the official handover ceremony to the community, Hon. Midius Natukunda Kaharata said that the spring is a relief to the residents especially women and children who have been suffering to access safe and clean water.

Hon. Natukunda the Rukungiri district Woman Member of Parliament called on the residents in the area to own the water project and ensure its made use of in a responsible manner.

On the same function, Hon. Naboth Namanya the Rubabo County Member of Parliament expressed his appreciation to Bridge of Hope Ministries, the non-governmental organization for collaborating with the government to provide safe water to the community.
Hon. Namanya advised residents to take care of the water source and maintain its cleanliness so that the community can continue to receive safe water.
He thanked other partners for helping the government provide aid to Ugandans, stating that they are unable to provide water to every area due to limited resource envelope.

According to Bridge of Hope Ministries’ founder, Abaasa Benjamin Tibemanya, they donated the project after being told by leaders that the area lacked safe and clean water, which compelled them to step in.
Abaasa said that as Bridge of Hope Ministries, they are collaborating with the government to ensure that people receive better services and they have so far constructed 47 water springs across Rukungiri district.

Specioza Kemirembe and Ninsiima Priscah some of the beneficiary residents revealed that they had no safe and clean water in their area and they had been in terrible situations, waiting for the development adding that they are now very excited thanking their legislators including Hon. Midius and Naboth for the rescue through lobbying from Bridge of Hope Ministries.

“Our area has for decades gone without safe water sources putting our lives at risk. We have suffered enough from water-borne diseases because of drinking unsafe water,” residents said.
