Residents of Kifunjo cell in Eastern Division Rukungiri Municipality are rejoicing following the commissioning of protected water spring funded by Counsel Isaac Atukunda.
The donated water spring supplies enough and clean water to more than 400 residents for both domestic use and small-scale irrigation.
Speaking during the commissioning, Counsel Isaac Atukunda who eyes for Rukungiri Municipality Parliamentary seat said that the donated spring aims to provide clean and safe water for the community.
Atukunda said that he donated the project after being contacted by residents that the area lacked safe and clean water, which compelled him to step in.
Counsel Isaac Atukunda advised residents to take care of the water source and maintain its cleanliness so that the community can continue to receive safe water.
Some of the residents who spoke with our reporter at the commissioning event said that before the initiative, residents would trek great distances to find water because NWSCs is unreliable and occasionally too costly for the community to purchase.
They added that the donated water spring is a huge relief to the community especially from waterborne diseases which were rampant due to lack of clean drinking water.
More than 30 protected water springs have been established in Rukungiri Municipality since 2022 by Counsel Isaac Atukunda, who has also started initiatives like the Atukunda Education Trust, which helps underprivileged children receive an education, as well as churches, schools, and road renovations.
