The Rukungiri Municipality area Member of Parliament Hon. Dr. Elisa Rutahigwa has challenged Christians to embrace government-sponsored programs that are aimed at fighting poverty among households.
Hon. Rutahigwa made the remarks yesterday Sunday during the fundraising function organized by Nyabihinga Catholic Church choir in Eastern Division Rukungiri municipality to purchase their worshiping instruments including keyboard, drums and uniform.
Speaking as the guest of honor, Hon. Rutahigwa said that after spiritual replenishment, Christians should strive to improve their lives through undertaking programs like Parish Development model (PDM) which have been considered as magic-bullet initiatives to fight poverty.
Hon. Rutahigwa also called on men to find solutions for eliminating household poverty, asserting that poverty is a major reason why men abandon their leadership roles and other responsibilities within the Church.
He expressed concern about the decreasing participation of men in church activities, noting that fewer males are taking on positions and responsibilities in the church, which may affect its operations and community engagement.
Hon. Rutahigwa supported Nyabihinga Catholic Church during the event with 2M shillings.
