The Rukungiri Municipality area Member Of Parliament Hon. Dr. Elisa Rutahigwa has refuted allegations circulating on social media regarding his statements on the current state of Dr. Kizza Besigye’s health.
There are reports circulating on social media that during the sendoff of the late Kellen Tumuhairwe in Kagyera Cell, Western Division, Rukungiri Municipality, mourners rejected a report from Rukungiri Municipality legislator Hon. Dr. Elisa Rutahigwa regarding the current state of Dr. Kizza Besigye’s health.
Dr. Rutahigwa reportedly told the mourners that he had just visited Besigye at Luzira Prison and discovered him in good health.
Dr. Rutahigwa had to end his speech short because the audience strongly disagreed with his stance.
During an interview with our reporter today, Hon. Rutahigwa revealed that the occurrence was regrettable and that he wanted to provide background information on Dr. Besigye’s health condition.
According to Hon. Rutahigwa, the speaker of Parliament ruled that the human rights committee should travel to Luzira to visit Besigye after the subject was brought up on the floor of Parliament late last month and Rutahigwa was among them.
He went on to say that this followed allegations on social media that Col. Dr. Kizza Besigye’s health was not good.
Besigye was taken before a committee after arriving at Luzira Prison, where he spoke for over an hour until he was deemed strong enough to do so.
However, before he made his point during the burial, Rutahigwa said that the MPs had visited Dr. Besigye in Luzira and found him to be strong but the mourners believed that he is now ok which is not true.

He also wanted to let the public know that he had seen Dr. Besigye at Luzira prison, and at that time, he was doing well, but that this time, his health required urgent care.
Being the son of the soil, Rutahigwa stated that he has no problem with Dr. Kizza Besigye wishing him dead and that he is a professional friend of his.
