Forty six parishes in all sub counties and town councils in Rujumbura constituency Rukungiri district are highly anticipated in Jim Cup 2024 ahead of finals at Sub County level.
Hon. Maj. Gen. Jim Katugugu Muhwezi, the Security Minister and Member of Parliament for Rujumbura County, established the Jim Cup, a football tournament every year, to unite young people during the Christmas season.
The tournament commenced on 8th December 2024 with Buhunga Sub County where seven parishes participated in the competitions.
Other Sub Counties, such as Bugangari, Nyakagyeme, Ruhinda, and Bwambara, have already participated and are awaiting the Sub County level finals, while the town councils of Bikurungu and Rwerere have completed the finals and are awaiting the Constituency level competition.
Ahimbisibwe Dan Bahamire, the chief coordinator of the Jim Cup, told our reporter during Tuesday’s football matches between three divisions of Bikurungu town council that all parish-level football teams were given jerseys and three footballs each to assist them during the tournament.
In addition to jersey and footballs, Ahimbisibwe stated that the Sub County winning parish will receive 500,000 shillings, followed by 400,000, 300,000, and 250,000, while the remaining teams will receive 200,000 shillings each.

He clarified that the winning Sub County will receive 2 million shillings at the Constituency level, followed by 1.5 million, 1 million, and 700,000, while the remaining Sub Counties will receive 500,000 shillings early next year.
According to Ahimbisibwe, the Jim Cup tournament aids in identifying young people from the Rujumbura Constituency who have talent.
“Minister Jim Muhwezi is committed to youth empowerment through sports, which not only brings the youth together but also helps them realize their full potential. In today’s world, football is big business and there is money in football,” He said.
