Members of Kibimbiri Rice Farmers Cooperative have received 15 tons of high quality rice seeds from Rujumbura County area Member of Parliament Hon. Maj. Gen. Jim Muhwezi for this season’s planting.
The donation of hybrid variety rice seeds will be distributed to farmers from Bwambara Sub County in Rukungiri district who subscribe to Kibimbiri Rice Growers Cooperative.
Speaking at the handover ceremony held at Bwambara Sub County headquarters in Rukungiri district, Ahimbisibwe Wilberforce Ongom the deputy resident district commissioner Rukungiri district urged members that the time has come for people to consistently elect leaders who can bring services closer to their communities rather than those who are driven by their own personal interests.
Ongom asked beneficiaries to utilize the donated rice seeds for their intended purpose instead of consuming or selling them.
He continued by noting that since this will enable them to profit more from rice growing, the government will ensure that factories and markets are available for rice as its output rises.
