There was jubilation in villages of Nyakafunjo, Kahooko Mile, Mitooma, Runyinya, Omububaare and Kyamakyere all in Kahooko Parish Nyakagyeme Sub County in Rukungiri district when the residents saw their area brighten up with electricity supply as power outage lasting nearly six month came to an end.
Many residents who could not afford the constant purchase of fuel and solar energy were seen trooping their business premises to turn on electrical appliances to support aspects of their businesses.
They contacted Hon. Maj. Gen. Jim Muhwezi, their area Member of Parliament and Security Minister late last month, who promptly contacted the Minister of Energy and replaced the transformer that had been experiencing technical problems for almost six months as this put an end to power outage in this area.
Speaking with our reporter, Sezi Turinawe from the office of Rujumbura County MP said that the response was in line with Hon. Jim Muhwezi’s goals of bringing services closer to people.
Turinawe encouraged residents to use electricity so that they could make money and enhance their quality of life.
He advised them to follow the right procedures of getting electricity into their houses instead of making unauthorized connections, which could lead to accidents and fires.
