Shock as President Museveni retains Ongom Deputy RDC Rukungiri days after reshuffle, residents speak

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has retained Ahimbisibwe Wilberforce Ongom as the Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC) for Rukungiri in his latest announcement of new RDCs and their deputies.

On Monday afternoon, August 19, the President revealed the appointment of new Resident District/City Commissioners, Deputies, and Commissioners at the RDC Secretariat.

“In exercise of the powers conferred upon the President of the Republic of Uganda by Articles 99 and 203 of the 1995 Constitution (as amended); I hereby appoint the following persons as Resident District/City Commissioners, Deputies, and Commissioners at the RDC Secretariat,” President Museveni stated in a message shared on X.

Ahimbisibwe Wilberforce Ongom, the Rukungiri Deputy Resident District Commissioner, was seen being transferred to Kihihi in the same role and was replaced by Micheal Kyakashari.

Ahimbisibwe Gad Rugaju was moved to Kanungu district headquarters as Deputy RDC.

However, in a letter seen by our reporter dated 21st August 2024, President Museveni directed Ongom to retain and remain deployed in Rukungiri district as Deputy RDC with immediate effect.

Ahimbisibwe Wilberforce Ongom was appointed Deputy RDC Rukungiri district on 23rd March 2022.

Since taking office, Ongom has been tackling corruption at district level in a number of departments, including health, education among others.

As President Museveni desires, Ongom has also been battling for a common person while solving issues.

In a recent case, he arrested the head teacher of a primary school who chased pupils out of the school for fees, despite the fact that the school was government aided under Universal Primary Education (UPE).

Additionally, Ongom has been tough on Parish Development Model SACCO (PDM) leadership, which demands money from beneficiaries yet the program is for free.

Ongom also collaborated with local leaders since being named Deputy RDC Rukungiri district to combat domestic violence by successfully resolving family conflicts through community gatherings.

After learning that Ongom had been retained as Deputy RDC Rukungiri, people spoke with our reporter and characterized him as a man of his word who serves the common man rather than people who are self-seekers.
