Speaker Anita Among heads to Vatican to represent Uganda at burial of Pope Francis

Speaker of Parliament Anita Among is set to lead a high-level Ugandan delegation to Vatican City this week to attend the burial of Pope Francis.

The visit comes after the unexpected passing of the Holy Father, who has been a global symbol of peace, humility, and religious tolerance.

President Yoweri Museveni has entrusted Speaker Among to represent Uganda at this solemn and historic event, underscoring the strong ties between Uganda and the Holy See.

The Vatican has maintained long-standing diplomatic relations with Uganda, especially given the nation’s significant Catholic population and the legacy of the Uganda Martyrs.

According to parliamentary sources, the delegation will include several Members of Parliament, religious leaders, and officials from Uganda’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The team will join other global dignitaries and heads of state who are expected to gather at St. Peter’s Basilica to pay their last respects to the Pope.

Speaker Among, who is also a devout Catholic, is expected to deliver a message of condolence from President Museveni and the Ugandan people.

Her presence at the funeral signals Uganda’s recognition of the Pope’s moral influence not just in religious matters but also in advocating for social justice, human dignity, and interfaith dialogue.
