This evening, a Fuso vehicle with license plate UAL 522D overturned on Katakwi-Soroti highway, resulting in the deaths of two believers.
As of press time, the commander of the region’s police, Damali Nancha, had confirmed in communications that two people had died and several more had been injured.
The incident happened in Katakwi District’s Gwetom Sub-County near Abela.
According to reports, the vehicle was returning from a women’s convention in Katakwi with approximately 60 ladies and three males.
Eyewitnesses said that the driver over accelerated, losing control of the truck and caused it to overturn.
The injured were taken to nearby hospitals by emergency response teams as soon as they got on the scene.
While some casualties were sent to Katakwi Hospital, others who were in serious condition were sent to Soroti Regional Referral Hospital to receive additional care.
Confirmation of the number of injured is ongoing, and the identities of the fatalities have not yet been made public.
The accident is being looked into by the authorities.
