A section of leaders under the presidential initiative known as “Boona Bagigahare Nyakundire Group” are upset with the founder, claiming that she is exploiting them as a means to further her own agenda.
The accused is Madam Peace Rugambwa the founder of an initiative aimed to promote onion growing in Kigezi and Ankole regions.
Leaders were not happy when Madam Peace Rugambwa called a meeting today, saying that the purpose was to coordinate the distribution of items she promised members.
Nine committee members from each Sub County and the Boda Boda leadership from Rukungiri district were expected to attend.
They were shocked to learn that they needed to first register in order to attend the meeting which was supposed to take place at their office located in Rukungiri town.
Along the way, security personnel under the command of UPDF and the police stopped the gathering, claiming that they had not obtained permission to hold it.
Angry leaders expressed their displeasure with Madam Peace Rugambwa to our reporter, claiming that she is only using the locals as a publicity stunt to get favors from the President and that she has interests of her own as an individual.
One of the leaders of the Boona Bagaigahare Nyenkudire Group from Bikurungu Town Council, Fred Tumwesigye, stated that although the group members who paid Ugx. 12,000 were aware that they would receive mattresses and brackets; they were taken aback when they arrived at the meeting place and were informed that they would be receiving coffee seedlings instead of materials.
Kakuramusi William and Engineer Edward Tumusiime other leaders elucidated that they had anticipated encountering Peace Rugambwa during the meeting but however, they were taken aback to discover that she was not around an indicator that she is exploiting them for her personal gain.
Now, Tumwesigye claims that Peace Rugambwa’s goal and vision to uplift the community in an effort to end poverty are unclear.
In order to prevent people from detesting the government due to Peace Rugambwa’s activities, leaders are now pleading with senior NRM party officials to step in.

When our reporter contacted Nsubuga Bewayo Stephen RDC Rukungiri, the head of security, for an explanation on why the meeting was stopped, he stated that Peace Rugambwa had not notified security about the meeting or even written to request permission, and that the meeting was illegal, which was the cause for the block.
Nsubuga clarified that at the July meeting of this year, which was attended by Minister Jim Muhwezi, Peace Rugambwa, and the leadership of Rukungiri district, it was decided that Rugambwa should always collaborate with leaders on projects that will benefit the people.
In this instance, Nsubuga claimed that Rugambwa had not disclosed the meeting’s purpose to them, and as a result, they were barred from conducting additional inquiries.

We made multiple attempts to reach Peace Rugambwa, but she didn’t return our calls, thus our efforts were in vain.
However, after speaking with Nuwamanya Norman the Boona Bagaigahare Nyekundire Group coordinator for Rukungiri district, our reporter learned that their goal was to register members who required coffee seedlings and to coordinate the distribution of mattresses and brackets to beneficiaries, but their efforts were in vain.
